    The Rotary Club of Waller County will sponsor their 5th Annual Wine Tasting and Steak Dinner Fundraiser on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 6 to 10 pm at the Red Oak Event Center. Guest speaker will be Mr. Michael Berry, renowned talk show host on 740 AM.  There will be wine tasting, a gun raffle, a live auction and silent auction.  The funds raised will go for scholarships for students in Waller ISD, Hempstead ISD, Royal ISD and home schooled students, as well as to assist CASA For Kids, Focusing Families and Family Ties.     Healthpoint Hempstead opened in the fall of 2014. The Health Center is one of the Rural Health Clinics under the umbrella of Brazos Valley Community Action Agency. BVCAA was founded in 1972 and serves a 12 county area. Our mission is to assist in the empowerment of individuals, families and communities to reach their full potential economically, educationally, health-wise, culturally and socially. BVCAA, Inc. is a private nonprofit organization established under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 to help combat poverty in America.

    Brazos Valley Community Action Agency has operated successfully bringing opportunities and services 12 county areas for 39 years. Community Action Agencies help people to help themselves in achieving self sufficiency. The health centers of BVCAA, Inc. strive to eliminate health disparities by offering quality primary and preventive health care to the medically underserved. There are twelve health centers in several counties – including one right here in Waller County.

    Healthpoint offers a variety of health care services and patient-centered care for all people, regardless of ability to pay. We aim to offer same day access to allow patients to be seen by a member of their care team during regular office hours.

    Pramoda Mohapatra, M.D. - Family Practice – He has been with BVCAA since June 2014 and prior to that he worked in Jasper, Texas with his own Family Practice Clinic and as Medical Director of the Jasper Regional Hospital Emergency Room. Dr. Mohapatra sees Adults, Adolescents, and Children.

    Belinda Yarbrough, WHNP sees Adult Women for Women Health Services, Family planning services, and prenatal care - Medical Services include:

    • Chronic illnesses

    • Family planning/reproductive health

    • Immunizations and Flu shots

    • Laboratory tests

    • Minor Care and Preventive Care

    • Physicals and well visits

    • Primary adult and pediatric care

    • Referrals to specialists as needed

    • Screening tests

    • We accept Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP and private insurance. Uninsured clients are provided services on a sliding fee scale, which is based on income and family size – we are not a free clinic – all uninsured clients have to pay a fee.

    From the President:

     

             As the chamber president, I would like to start by thanking all of you who have volunteered your time to the chamber.  This month we would like to reach out and invite all of the families with children to the Chamber's annual Easter Egg Hunt. It will be held on March 19, at the Hempstead city park at 11:00am. A special thanks to Mr. Scott Duncan and his team for a well organized in budget effort to make the Easter Egg Hunt viable. I would also like to thank, Mrs. Barbara Bezub again for what I consider a well put together newsletter. This past month I have personally witnessed, our members working together, and through those efforts I see several  of our primary goals being fulfilled.  These goals that I am speaking of are the chamber adding value to the community and putting focus to local business, keep up the GOOD work! Let us keep working together as a TEAM.
