Hempstead History

Are you looking for a quiet, historic community in a
rural atmosphere with easy access to city services?
Welcome
to Hempstead!
Our
close proximity to Texas A&M in College Station,
Prairie View A&M, medical facilities and shopping
in Tomball and Brenham, antique shops in Bellville
& Magnolia, and everything else in Houston, places
us in the perfect location. U.S. 290 allows easy
access to Houston or Austin and I-10 is 1/2 an hour
away.
We're known as "The Watermelon Capital of
Texas" but we also have a rich history of
agribusiness. Livestock and row crops are extremely
important to this small town.
Did you know that we're the first stop on the Bluebonnet
Trail? Every spring our roadsides are covered in
native Texas wildflowers.
Our low taxes and small population makes Hempstead a
great place to live. Come visit us and see for
yourself!
